The Miners' 1947 swimming team was the first to win a conference championship in its sport, doing so as a member of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Association in its inaugural league meet. The Miners established conference records in each of the nine events contested at the championship as they swept the first place finishes in the finals. Ray Williams was the top scorer for the Miners with 12 2/3 points as he won two individual events and assisted in a relay victory, while George Eaton claimed firsts in diving and the 100-yard freestyle. Charles Bernard was the head coach of the 1947 Miners and would also guide the 1948 team to an MIAA championship.
