Erickson was a standout swimmer for the Miners in the late 1970s, winning All-America awards on seven occasions during his career.  He won All-America awards in the 100-yard backstroke in 1977, 1978 and 1979, the 200-yard backstroke in 1978 and 1979 and as part of the 400-yard medley relay teams in 1976 and 1977.  He also helped the Miners win three MIAA championships during his career, setting three conference records and winning 10 MIAA titles along the way.  He was named as the MIAA’s Swimmer of the Year in 1978.
