Brunner was a three-time all-conference and all-region performer in cross country for the Lady Miner program and was the second individual in the program's history to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships in the sport. She had three top-ten finishes at the MIAA Championships, including a third place showing in 1986 and fourth place effort in 1985, while taking third at the NCAA regional meet during the 1986 season to earn her spot in the national meet where she placed 35^th overall.   She finished among the top 15 runners at the regional meet in 1985, 1986 and 1988.
