This was the first Miner football team to play in a sanctioned post-season game as a reward for its outstanding season.  The team finished with a record of 7-2 and won the MIAA championship that year by scoring on the last play of the game in a 35-34 win over rival Southwest Missouri State.  MSM earned a berth to the Corn Bowl, where it defeated Illinois State 7-6 on an icy field in Normal, Ill.  Ed Kwadas’ touchdown and Bill Wohlert’s kick proved to be decisive in the victory.
