The 1941 Miner football team was the first squad in that sport to capture a conference championship, winning a share of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association title with Northwest Missouri State. The Miners got their share of the title with wins in their final three conference games, beginning with a 3-0 win over Springfield on Harold “Stubby” Krueger’s field goal. The team also boasted the first All-America performer in lineman Ed Kromka, a member of the Little All-America team.
