Gibson finished his outstanding career with the Miners as the all-time leading scorer in men’s basketball history and earned third-team NABC All-America honors following the 1985-86 season.  He established school records for points in a game with 43 and in a career with 1,534 as he was a four-time member of the MIAA’s all-conference team.  He led the Miners in scoring in each of his final three seasons of play.  Following his playing career as a Miner, Gibson played in the European Professional League in Ireland and averaged 42 points a game in that season.
