Drussa was a standout at tight end for the Miner football program in the early 2000s, earning All-America honors on two occasions and was named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association's all-conference first team following his junior and senior seasons. Drussa established school records for receptions by a tight end, hauling in 134 passes for 1,547 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four years as a Miner, including the 2004 season when he was a consensus All-America pick after making 69 catches for 790 yards. Drussa also excelled in the classroom as he was named to the Academic All-America team after the 2004 season.
