A past president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Key won more basketball games than any coach in school history. In 23 seasons at the helm of the Miner program, he posted a record of 279-278 and won 387 games in 29 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He also led the Miners to two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, a conference title in 1975-76 and was very active in the NABC, serving on the Board of Directors and as national chairman of the All-America committee. A charter member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, Key was the university’s director of athletics from 1967-90 and led great growth in athletics.
