ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T junior
Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor) has landed a spot on this year's College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America team, making him the third Missouri S&T student-athlete to earn that award this year.
Mossop was named to the third team on the at-large squad, which covers all sports that do not have a specific Academic All-America squad designated for it. He is the 15
th Academic All-America selection from the S&T swimming program – the team has had at least one individual selected in each of the last five years – and 91
st for the institution in the history of the program, the fifth-most of any NCAA Division II institution.
During the 2016-17 season, Mossop scored for Missouri S&T in five events at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships as the Miners finished second as a team for the third consecutive year. He posted scoring performances in the 100-yard backstroke, both individual medley events and as part of both medley relays.
In addition to his work in the pool and classroom, where is a chemical engineering major, Mossop also served as the president of Missouri S&T's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the last academic year.
Mossop joins Bret Curtis, a member of the football team and Anna Fink, who earned her second award as a member of the women's soccer team, as S&T's Academic All-America selections for the 2016-17 school year.
Besides swimming and diving, the academic at-large team also consists of student-athletes who competed in golf, wrestling, fencing, skiing, tennis, lacrosse, ice hockey and water polo.
