11/3/2013 4:35:00 PM

Box Score QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer season came to an end Sunday afternoon, as an early goal by Quincy's Ryan Siefert proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Hawk victory in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

After missing an early scoring chance off a corner kick, the Hawks grabbed the lead in the ninth minute of play when Siefert took a cross right in front of the net from Ethan Venvertloh and put a shot by S&T goalkeeper Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West).

Quincy had a 7-3 advantage in shots in the first half of play, with the Miners getting one of their shots on goal.

The Miners started getting some shots in the early stages of the second half to start closing that gap, but only had one shot over the final 26 minutes of action that Gilberto Robayo (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish) hit over the top of the net with just over 10 minutes to play.

The top-seeded Hawks (15-4) finished with a 9-8 advantage in shots with each team getting two on goals.  Jackson finished with one save in his final game in the nets for S&T, who ended Gabe Hall's first season as head coach with a record of 8-8-2.
